Snacklebox

The Laird showed me a meme about charcuterie being dead and a snacklebox being the new hot thing. Interestingly enough, not much later, I was asked to bring a charcuterie board to a party. What happened next should be obvious.

Fleet Farm has a very large tackle selection. The tackle-box choices are much more limited, but this worked. The big space at the bottom seemed perfect for crackers, but I’m still fighting baguettes, so once more into the breach.

I very much dislike making baguettes. It doesn’t rise to hatred, but they’re so much effort and mine never turn out. These were my best, yet, but the crumb still isn’t right. They’re just baguette-shaped loaves of bread. These tasted great and had a chewy texture that made them perfect for piling cheese and sausage on.

Finding interesting cheese is easy, albeit expensive. Finding interesting sausage is much more difficult. Apparently, “charcuterie” means prosciutto, salami or summer sausage (pepperoni is an ingredient, not a food). In any case, $80 and some slicing later, I had a snacklebox!

Ham, Corned Beef, Garlic Summer Sausage, Italian sausage with unrecalled name, more Garlic Summer Sausage, Bloody Mary cheese curds.

Baby Swiss, Mushroom and Leek Jack, Bacon and Onion Cheddar, Smoked Gouda, Smoked Cheddar, and more of the same just to fill it out.

Baguette attempt number three on the bottom. Tip: Put something heavy in the bottom so it doesn’t tip over as the bread is eaten.
