Learning 2 Bake from Scratch – XLVIII

Petit Fours

I thought that “four” was the number of faces (people always forget cubes have six faces) and that I was making petit ones because mine were round. It turns out, “four” is the French word for “oven”.

These are just very small layer cakes. I used Sugar Spun Run’s recipe. They turned out great. I forgot to take the final picture.

I used four 8-inch round pans instead of two rectangular pans. I cut out the layers with a biscuit cutter. The smallest one still made very large petit fours. They were cupcake sized.

The frosting was perfect. It poured nicely while hot and solidified into a nice smooth fondant-like texture when cooled.

The filing was good, but I think I would have preferred something sweeter.
