I’ve become a recluse. It took me a week to recover from having guests for a week. People have become exhausting. In any case, this weekend we managed to get the first third of the garden beds built. We had two done. Now we have eight done. Here’s the reverse angle:

That’s bigger than it looks. From this angle, there’s a 2′ one out-of-frame, the 6′ one needs four more red 2x6s, an 8′ red one, 6′ of brown with red on top, a 6′ one, the green is 4′, and two 6′ beds to start it off. That’s 44 feet – about 18″ deep (foot long boards between the bricks).
The next chunk will have two-foot long boards between the bricks. Hopefully, we can get that done by the end of June. Staining all that lumber is, surprisingly, the hard part. Probably because we hired-out the “remove the sod” step. Squaring and leveling is not all that bad, if a bit tedious.
Not sure what we’re going to do between the beds and the fence. We pulled a lot of crabgrass out of there, which means it will just come back. Spraying it with kill-everything doesn’t seem wise. There’s a bit of a rut back there. I’m thinking maybe a bunch of bulbs, fill the rut with dirt, and plant something self-seeding on top; marigolds are coming to mind as fall flowers to complement the spring bulbs.
As for the rest of it, in first picture order: Strawberries, Raspberries, Blueberries, Blackberries, the red is unclaimed (it’s shady, so perhaps bolting things), and grape vines in the corner, which will cover some of the chain-link and, hopefully, not be too awful to keep pruned.
