Blackberry Apple Pie
Another one from the Four and Twenty Blackbirds book. I again used the combo crust. I cut it down to a 2/3rds recipe, which really wasn’t enough. The bottom crust is very thin. I also par/blind baked it, which the recipe does not call for – but fruit pies are runny.
The top is cookie-cutter cut leaves. I was going for a fall motif. I’d call it a mediocre attempt. I wanted yellow and orange sugar for the top. The store didn’t have that (they did have red, white, and blue) so I used white/clear. I could have tried to die it, but that sounds very messy as the sugar dissolves into the food coloring.
I think it’s time to move on from pies. I have an idea for a Halloween cake…
