InstaPot vs Dutch Oven

I recently watched a “kitchen on $300” YouTube video by Brian Lagerstrom:

Nothing surprised me, although I may buy a Y-peeler when my current “normal” peeler gets dull. The Dutch Oven vs Crock Pot comments were interesting, so I thought I’d try an experiment. I have both an Instapot and Dutch oven – and I rarely use either.

I made roast beef in each. Basically the same, although the cut of meat was slightly different and I put potatoes in the Instapot version, which made me remember that I have never liked potatoes cooked with a roast. They both cooked for four hours.

The Dutch oven was the clear winner. I will not be Instapotting a roast, again. The sauce even made better gravy – with no seasoning at all, just some thickening (I like cornstarch over flour).

Since I didn’t make potatoes with that version, I made a box of some sort of Betty Crocker cheesy potatoes. Blech. Well, that’s not true. They were not “bad”; they were just not good. Very bland. If you’re going to sell me a “just add water (and milk)” dish, at least add some flavor. I’m paying for the “cheesy” part as much as the potato part. I even grated some Asiago into it and added some parsley. Still super bland.
