What could go wrong? Sorry, Max, today was supposed to be Globi for crochet group, tomorrow. Instead, I’m sick. An annoying low-grade fever with coughing.
While soaking in the hot tub sounded nice, the idea of walking wet from the hot tub to the door when the temperature is single digits (Fahrenheit) was incredibly unappealing with the way fevers screw up temperature regulation. I decided to take a sauna, instead – one can take clothing along.
The sauna has a pretty hard thermocline at about chest level and another at the bench. I’ve been meaning to try out a fan to try to break those up. I found the USB fan we bought at Selfridge’s (wow, ten years ago). It’s a silly, mostly useless thing that creates a clock face on the spinning blades. The Laird has a USB ported battery. I set it on the floor, blowing up into the heater. That thing worked like a champ! It entirely eliminated the chest height thermocline and greatly reduced the bench height thermocline. At 148 degrees it was much hotter than 170 without the fan. Experiment number one was a success!
The big question was: Would it break the fever? It wasn’t all that bad. I’ve had high fevers and this was not a high fever. I’d guess 102. I have a thermometer for humans, but I wasn’t going to do anything with the information, so why bother checking? 148 is much higher than 102. If my body wants to be hot, well, let’s accommodate that. The fever just broke. Experiment number two was a success!
But, it’s also around hour 50 since I first noticed symptoms. Fevers rarely last that long, so I’m not sure if the sauna did anything or not – aside from getting me all toasty warm.
I’m still tired and hungry, so I’m not going to read the 250 emails that have piled up at work over the last two days. Tomorrow is soon enough to deal with that.
