It’s interesting. I don’t know that I’ll make it again, but I’m happy sending it off to crochet group – with toothpicks. All this honey stuff is sticky, which does not go with yarn.
It’s very easy to make. Here’s the waiting-for-oil-to-heat shot:

I did them five at a time and the oil still needed to be turned down. But, there’s a reason I use cast iron for deep frying. My grandmother’s pan in the background has an inch of oil in it from last time and for next time I fry potatoes. It’s usually covered.
Never try to meet the standards of a professional photographer. The main picture was taken in a “fake background” lightbox The Laird bought, mostly for me, I think. It’s very hard to keep the frame tight enough to avoid the edges. The cookbook version, which this imitates, is much better. What I really want to know: How did they get the poppy seeds so evenly distributed?!?
