Clearly, I am not the first to walk around this gate, which is obviously there to stop vehicular, not pedestrian, traffic. I’m sure it’s fine.
Why am I walking around this gate? To get pine needles from under the trees down the path.
Why do I want pine needles?

Because they make great mulch for strawberries. It keeps the bugs off the berries. I also put them around the blueberry bushes because they acidify the soil as they rot. I should probably do something acidifying sooner than that, but it’s a start.
As a totally random aside, this morning I felt a warm breeze blowing through the kitchen. “Is the oven on?” I asked myself. No. It was already 85 degrees out at 0800. I closed the windows to keep the heat out, for the first time this year.
