Cheddar

I’ve pretty much given up on every other sort of cheese – unless it needs to be melted; cheddar doesn’t melt well – and settled on cheddar as the type to have on hand.

When I write “cheddar” on the grocery list, I mean a block of not-expensive cheddar that I can slice for sandwiches, including cheese burgers, or grate onto omelets.

Every now and again The Grocery Fairy – you have one of those, right? you just make a list and the stuff magically shows up? – gets creative. This week he brought me a wide variety of cheddars. Among them, some of that super-yummy spreadable cheese.

I’m quite sure that cheddar spread on Triscuits is the same as a grilled cheese sandwich.

I will admit to hypocrisy: I mocked Adventure Cat when he saw me in the kitchen, came trotting in from outside (it’s very nice today so I left the door open for him), stopped in front of the kitteh treats, and meowed quite insistently that he deserved one for so nicely coming inside.

Normally, that would be normal. However, I was mocking him for his treat-seeking behavior while holding a tub of cheddar and a box of Triscuits. Being the one with opposable thumbs, I gave him a pat and went back to my desk to indulge.

First world problem of the day: Much like hot dog and bun packaging, the cheese and Triscuits don’t balance. I ran out of crackers long before running out of cheese.
