Quotes of the Day (1)

I’m trying to decide if I want to start aggregating them and doing a weekly post.

Here’s the latest (from an HFY story):

This editing page has been open most of the week and that’s all I’ve got. I’m adding this one, mostly as padding.

I did stumble upon two dead metaphors this week:

Pot calling the kettle black

Very few people have cast iron pots; even fewer have cast iron kettles. Cooking over a sooty flame (“on the hob”) is even more rare. I think it’s safe to say that one’s dead.

Cream rises to the top

Milk has been homogenized for my entire life. I did have a share in dairy herd for a while when I was living in Denver. We got milk as a dividend, since buying raw milk is (stupidly) illegal. This one may not be quite dead, but it’s very close.
