No Planting

The plan for today was to plant seeds in the “far” beds. There was a prerequisite: Get the driplines connected.

The prerequisite has been achieved in a not-quite-McGuyver manner. I’m sure those hose things are meant for this sort of task.

The reason that’s even a thing is because the space for the compost bins interrupts the flow of the garden beds. There needs to be something that doesn’t leak, not dripline, crossing that gap. A hose saver on the end of each dripline and another two on the ends of the 5-foot pipe. Given that pipes are gay – male threading on both ends – the driplines ends had to be female in order to make the dripline/pipe connection mate on both sides. Worked out great. Water flows. I didn’t notice any drips, but if there is a bit of leakage, it doesn’t matter.

The as-long-as task was more difficult. Those bricks under the compost bins were not there this morning. Math failed me, yet again. The opening is 33×57. The bricks are 6×4. We (it was shared effort) calculated 56 bricks. We went back to Menards for 26 more. It wasn’t as bad as it sounds – well, the math was – because we needed to get two more of those hose things.

I had two, but the project needed four. For whatever reason, our choices of pipe length were 5 feet or 10 feet. To do this without anything more than dripline and pipe, the pipe would have needed to be 6 feet long. I have a (small, awful) pipe cutter, but I do not have a way to thread it. I was going to chop up some spare hose and put ends on it, which we would also have to go back to Menards to purchase. Then I remembered these things; more expensive, but much easier.

That completes all the tasks that remained to-do after the grass went in. That was eight months ago, but most of that was winter. I wouldn’t say “expeditious”, but not bad for me and yard work.

Now that those beds have water, I could plant. I’m tired of yardwork for the day. I’m going for pizza and beer, now. Tomorrow, maybe. As soon as the Gryo seeds arrive, definitely.

Oh, before starting all that, I finished Dungeon Crawler Carl. I updated that post with my thoughts.
