Pretty Sure It’s AI

I’m not going to make the accusation in an Amazon review, but I’m pretty sure that Kill Rate is AI generated.

The flags:

It stated a fact and then it stopped, the way a posted sign states a fact and then stops,…

That’s not wrong. I even like it. On its own, it wouldn’t raise suspicions. It’s not on its own. Emphasis mine.

It was simply off, the way a thing goes off when the part of it that mattered had finished its job for the day.

It was low and wide and the wrong shape for anything built to sell, panels fitted for function instead of a showroom floor, and it sat dead on its wheels the way a thing sits when whatever moved it had stopped bothering.

nothing. It was low and wide and the wrong shape for anything built to sell, panels fitted for function instead of a showroom floor, and it sat dead on its wheels the way a thing sits when whatever moved it had stopped bothering.

It arrived everywhere at once, printed flat across his vision the way a windshield holds a reflection,

Ray looked at it the way a man looks at a bill that has arrived for somebody else’s purchase.

That is all from the first chapter.

That was the thing Ray kept coming back to afterward, in the version of the morning he built for himself once there was time to build one.

Wildly breaks the time flow and omniscient narrator.

Twelve days into whatever this was, a stopped vehicle on an empty road meant a breakdown, a checkpoint, a trap, or a body, and there was no way to tell which from a hundred meters that did not also involve getting closer than a hundred meters.

Leaving aside the run-on on sentence, it makes sense and doesn’t at the same time.

No other vehicles on the road in either direction. No smoke, no fresh tire marks pulled off onto the shoulder in a hurry, nothing that read as an ambush somebody had set and was waiting inside.

Also no verbs.

I don’t think I’ll be seeing chapter three.

The worst part is that I can hear an AI narrator reading it. And, no, it’s not me; it’s the book. I’m reading another one (a physical book, even) and that’s not an issue. I’ll post about that one once I finish it.

BTW: 500 images generated overnight. 16 of them are worth considering, however briefly. I also found 10 from back in August that aren’t dreadful. That should be enough for blog post images. The final 500 from the batch of 1000 will presumably be done by tomorrow morning.
