Redemption Interrupted

This is an interesting story arc:

• Nasty (“blinkered” might be more accurate) person moves to a new place.
• Causes grief.
• Realizes she’s nasty/blinkered/culturally out-of-step and starts to adapt.
• Things get better.
• Stops adapting.
• Causes even more grief.
• Ends badly.

The usual redemption arc continues until redemption. Getting halfway there and going off the rails back to the original personality is probably far more common in real life, but it’s very unusual in fiction.

I haven’t gotten to the “Ends badly” step, yet, but I’ve read the April series many times. I know it’s coming. This is a very long arc. Linda Pennington first appears in book 5. “Causes even more grief” is happening at the start of book 11.

This would make sense for someone who has been werewolfed. Wants it, has issues, gets straightened out, reverts to old habits, killed or exiled. I haven’t decided to do it, but I very well may.
