Done, Again

Chapter 19 was done on 3 Oct. Chapter 23 was done on 15 Oct.

Chapters 21, 22, and 23 are done again (25 Oct), with some kids! None of them have been named, yet, but they exist.

Chapter 24 remained done, thankfully. No room for kids in that one.

Chapter 25 got done (with kids).

Chapter 26 is about halfway.

Chapter 27 is outlined and RPG-ed. It needs to be Lit-ed. The even numbered subchapters of Chapter 27 match the even chapter numbers of The Mage Tower. The chapter 27 subtitles are from our intrepid heroes perspective. The chapter titles in The Mage Tower are from Marcy’s perspective. For example, 27.14 is “Barely Ahead” but chapter 14 is “Catching Up”. The content is (will be) identical.

I’m still not sure I’m doing this, but I need the chapter 27 parts, anyway. I can always delete the subchapter headings.

Chapter 28 is mostly not there.

Chapter 29. Sigh. The cattle drive has lost its own chapter. Chapter 28 will include building what the livestock needs (barns and fences come to mind, but I’ll check for more). Chapter 29 will be both harvest and the cattle drive. I haven’t decided how I’m going to split it. Alternating scenes? One then the other?

Chapter 30 will be the end. That’s why poor “Chapter 24 – Cattle Drive”, which got pushed to chapter 29, had to die.

If I’m ambushed by the characters and the book pushes through 30 chapters, it almost has to go to 36. I love the subtle meta-hint that base-12 is important. I don’t want 200K words, though. Write it, then worry. Obviously, or chapter 24 would not have become chapter 29.

Despite deleting another couple hundred words by removing all the saying, asking, replying and explaining, it’s at 148K.

I’m going to try to keep the chapter 27 Runs short. Not only for this book’s bulk, but because they’ll be copied to the other. The new content must outweigh the repeated content, by a significant margin, or there is no point in the second book. I do not want that to be a novel; novel-length if you include the repeat content, maybe. 20K words repeated, 40K words new. I can has goalz!

It’s late. The Kindle regeneration and upload can wait until tomorrow. That editing pass is still on chapter 16.

Rejected image (with beer, at least on my side): The weird fur blob on the left between the wolf and the guy (Tom, of course). The collars on the wolves. The lack of anything at all glowing, although the brightness of the picture does compensate, somewhat.
