Kids (one?)

There’s always a “two”. Should I just start out with “one” in these? Anyway…

Train of thought:

  • Because today is Farmers Market day, I was thinking about the 12 and 14 year-old boys on the cattle drive (Lessons of an Immigrant Father, which I bought at the Farmers Market).
  • How would kids grow up with the System? I’ve already figured this out: Class at Level 12 is the adulthood marker. Leveling from 0 to 12 during childhood is personalized. There is no age of adulthood. If you make Level 12 at nine years old (highly unusual), welcome to adulthood. What that means exactly will need to be clarified over time, but right to carry a weapon is a big one. Member of the city council seems ridiculous. Eligible to try, probably, but who would vote/select a nine year old?
  • Of course there would be some kids in town who are impressed and want to be a werewolf when they grow up. Someone is going to follow them around. We have a new named character.
  • Uh. There are no kids in town. Oops. They need to be added to Chapter 23 – Around Town wherein our intrepid heroes tour the town. A few watchers need to be added to the sparring session at the end of chapter 25. Chapter 28 needs kids. Appropriate “ZZZ: Add kids” updates made.

I wonder if WordPress has a Search widget I can add. It took a while to find that Life as a Werewolf post.

I like “Timmy” as the name for the kid (yes, for the Lassie reference), but he’ll grow up to be “Tim”, which will get confusing with “Tom”. I’ve added French (Jacques Tremblay and Millicent James) and Lakota (Tatanka Smith and Scott Chayton) influence to the city council. I like the idea of Tatanka’s (bison, unusual name due to significance) son being “little wolf” and making him the kid. Grr. Wolf is “Pte” and we already have a Pete. “Loup” is French and we already have Luke and Lupa.

It’s going to take me longer to come up with his name than it will to write his scenes!

“Rabbit” maybe? That could be fun. “Mashtincha”. Maybe Marshall and his dad calls him “Mashtincha”. “Mash” could become his nickname when he gets older. This could work.

I’m at nearly 140K words and this shows no sign of getting shorter (other than deleting all the quote attributions; that was probably several hundred words).

Now, off to the Farmers Market.
