So That’s Why: Economics

I just smashed into a barrier far worse than the magic one, which I could smash with handwavium. I now realize that this is why so many LitRPG books either ditch Earth or rebuild it. I’m writing it as post-apocalypse. The same people are still around in the same places – except the dead ones,Continue reading “So That’s Why: Economics”

Call for Alpha Readers

I’ve mentioned this before, but it was buried in other things. Leaving a (somewhat self-serving) comment on According to Hoyt, I realized a dedicated landing page for it would be handy. This is that page. I want to send out just the first half. It’s a decent stopping point. If the feedback is “Dear G*d!Continue reading “Call for Alpha Readers”

The Hobgoblin of Consistency

That’s the last one. I think it’s a contender. Illustrate pulls at me. The chapters are getting longer. I tried to fight this, but I’m giving up. It’s too early to worry about it and constantly renumbering things is getting expensive. I’m writing as a file per chapter, so renumbering changes all the filenames. InContinue reading “The Hobgoblin of Consistency”

Cover Style

This is only limitedly negotiable. Genres have cover styles, which change over time. If one violates that style, one irritates readers because they don’t get what they expect. This is why “shirtless guys” sends the wrong message. I’m not writing a Gay Romance novel. There is a gay romance, but that’s not the same thing.Continue reading “Cover Style”

Fans Spooling Up!

It’s about time I use this computer. I have Stable Diffusion (a fairly old version) generating images from this prompt: two muscular men in jeans and tight white t-shirt full body hiking boots visible standing close outside dry hills background with a wolf sitting beside them The results are “interesting”. The faces in all ofContinue reading “Fans Spooling Up!”

Dungeons

What is a dungeon? From a utilitarian perspective: A training ground. One can run about in the real world killing things (monsters, humans, random animals), but there are consequences. Even systemized worlds need ecosystems. If people wander around killing everything, the ecosystem will collapse. Dungeons are for training. One can kill everything inside without worryingContinue reading “Dungeons”

Enlightened, Monsters, and Animals

I’m not a big fan of the term “enlightened races”, but it exists and it’s convenient, so I’m adopting it. This refers to those races who naturally (without system fuckery) form societies. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Aliens, etc… This is not quite synonymous with “sapient”. Leaving aside the offspring question (i.e. are human babies sapient? It’sContinue reading “Enlightened, Monsters, and Animals”
