Well, that was fun. My teeth are fine. My jawbone is apparently not. I had a molar pulled, yesterday. First, it is very important to be clear: Thank G*d for anesthesia. While I didn’t feel “nothing”, the entire process – about four hours – was fine on the jaw/tooth front. I also felt as ifContinue reading “Tooth Fairy”

Chapter 19 Has Fallen Before Me
Finally. What used to be the problematic Chapter 18 is now chapters 18, 19, and 20 – and they are all done. 21 and 22 were mostly done, already. A new chapter 23 got injected. It’s not done. Looking up the link, that took almost four months. Tempus has fugitted. I’m not in any particularContinue reading “Chapter 19 Has Fallen Before Me”
OK, Boomer
What Grocery Stores Lost When They Ditched the 1970s Layout contains a lot of interesting factibbles. It also contains a lot of opinions. This quote needed some trimming. It’s section 6. Ask anyone who grew up shopping with their parents in the 1970s about the deli counter and you’ll usually get a smile before theContinue reading “OK, Boomer”
When Would You Pick?
If you were to die today and were offered the chance to be injected into your own mind at any point in your life’s timeline, when would you pick? Before you had your children? For me, that one’s easy because I don’t have children. Chances are very high that, even if you try to avoidContinue reading “When Would You Pick?”
Drawing a Line
But where? The problem with non-standard fonts is that the data must be put somewhere. What’s the data? Who knows? That could be a rendered bitmap or the entire font. Where is somewhere? Who knows? That could be embedded in the book itself or it could be a reference to AWS data, which makes theContinue reading “Drawing a Line”
I Cannot Tell
The weekend goal is to make progress on the outline. After writing it, I decided that I’d rather passively watch something than actively write. Since it’s only Friday night, that shouldn’t impact a weekend goal very much, right? I cannot tell if this is AI or not: It’s good. I’ll even go so far asContinue reading “I Cannot Tell”
Attack Miniphany!
I got it! The biker gang does not attack Kier, itself, which is idiotic. They attack an outlying farm. I have already established that at least some of these farms have radios to talk to the sheriff. From chapter 13: “Nice to meet you, sheriff. I’ve got to ask, do you often stand on theContinue reading “Attack Miniphany!”
The Townsfolk
If I’m going to give them agency, I need to know who they are. The real-world Kier has a (Wiki) population of 350. I’ve written “under 500”. That’s a lot of people. Some of them must be good for something (apparently, I’ve become a Utilitarian in my old age). Who we have so far, inContinue reading “The Townsfolk”
Causality, Smausality
One of the big arguments against faster than light travel is that it will break causality. Even if true, I don’t see how that matters. So what? What’s so sacred about causality? Humans certainly don’t pay any attention to it, now. Example one billion whatever-we’re-up-to: “There are so many people in this administration that haveContinue reading “Causality, Smausality”
AI Slop and Buggy Whips
This one is my introspection, not my characters. The great and powerful YouTube algorithm presented LughDJ to me. I’m not a huge fan of club music, but it’s high energy. I like having the fake shirtless men dancing on the side of my screen when I look away from the text I’m writing. This isContinue reading “AI Slop and Buggy Whips”
