Initial Split

Book one, You Asked For It, is 67K words in 12 chapters (plus prologue). That’s a bit short, but I haven’t made any edits other than to consolidate chapters to hit the desired 12 count. In terms of overall structure and content, it’s “done”, aside from injecting James, our intrepid lineman.

Book two, Numbers Go Up (tentatively), is 80K words in 15 chapters, which needs to be consolidated down to 12. How to do that is not as obvious as it was with book one. It’s also nowhere near done – even with scare quotes.

I definitely want book one’s word count up. 80K seems like a good minimum. At 67K words, it’s 144 8×10 pages. Book two at 80K words is 190 pages. That number more-or-less doubles for Kindle pages. We’ll see what happens.

I wrote a (crappy) blurb for book two when I cleaned up book one’s blurb.

What if your thoughts at one particular moment defined the rest of your life? What if a daydream, a fantasy, a focus on a task, an arrant wish, or a fleeting whimsy changed your life forever?

When the System arrives, it tries to be helpful, but there’s not a lot of time. The world, the entire universe, transforms based on that one moment.

Farm girls with fireballs. Linemen throwing lightening bolts. Sharpshooters who cannot miss. Doctors who heal all wounds. Everyone’s “better”, but is that a good thing?

There is no tutorial. There is no instruction manual. Figure it out or fall behind – or die.

Join the intrepid werewolf couple, Tom and Luke, as they try to make sense of a dangerous, violent, and very strange new world.

You Asked For It is the first book about a werewolf pack and its allies who will rise to the challenge and create something wonderful in the midst of chaos.

It’s better, but still not quite right. Book two’s blurb sucks, but I only spent about five minutes on it.

What do you do when the world ends? When everyone is given power without explanation, the world tears itself apart. How do you save yourself, your family, your community?

Modern infrastructure crumbles as the legions of people who keep it running don’t. What do you eat? Where do you get water? How do you fend off attacking monsters?

Without knowing the rules, all anyone has to work with is the basic gaming adage: Numbers Go Up.

There is no tutorial. There is no instruction manual. Figure it out or fall behind – or die.

Numbers Go Up is the second book about a werewolf pack and its allies who will rise to the challenge and create something wonderful in the midst of chaos.

Book Two needs a cover. I have no idea, right now. There are plenty of reasonable book one covers that I have rejected, but I’m not sure how much I want book two’s cover to look like book one’s.
