I was looking around for alpha readers for the first third (or so) of my book. When I mentioned it to one of my acquaintances, he asked if I had read Dungeon Crawler Carl. Not only had I not read it, I’d never heard of it. Lo, these many weeks later, I’m in a bookstoreContinue reading “Bestseller? Seriously?”

Learning 2 Bake from Scratch – LXXXVII
Cinnamon Rolls The moral of this story: Don’t always believe the recipe. This is my third or fourth time making these from the Joy of Cooking recipe. The previous versions have been fine, but a bit tough. Way back in LXX, I used a different recipe. Following the recipe may (or may not, I haven’tContinue reading “Learning 2 Bake from Scratch – LXXXVII”
Earworm of the Day
I have robins in my garden beds. This is not surprising because I also have driplines in my garden beds, which create soft soil for worms. They – the robins, not the worms, I don’t think – hop along the beds. Every time I see it happen, I think to myself, I think, “poor littleContinue reading “Earworm of the Day”
Gyros
The lamb folks at the Farmers’ Market were selling “gyro meat”, which was seasoned lamb-burger formed into strips and pre-baked, in this case. I bought some because I like gyros and thought it would make a nice change of pace. I had to go to the store for a tomato and tzatziki sauce. We hadContinue reading “Gyros”
HFY – Follow up
I’ve “watched” a bunch of these, now. They have even inspired a speech, which I may or may not actually present. I’m not sure Toastmasters is ready for it, which makes it both tempting and intimidating at the same time. I have two things to comment upon: Presentation and Content. Digression: I donated $50 toContinue reading “HFY – Follow up”
Happy Spring!
I was just in a call, with video, and one of the participants had a snow covered yard in the background. I thought he could use some spring cheer, so I ran outside and took the picture above. I also needed some spring cheer. It’s been gloomy and snaining for the past week. The pictureContinue reading “Happy Spring!”
Broken Cactus
The Cactus of Theseus is blooming. That’s great, but it’s a Christmas cactus and it’s almost May. Oh well, it’s pretty. That’s an awfully short post. More strawberries are blooming. The raspberries survived and are growing nicely. One blueberry bush survived; I need soil acidification stuff that’s not Spa Down. The lawn roomba is working.Continue reading “Broken Cactus”
Humans – Fuck Yeah!
I discovered a new genre. It’s fan-fucking-tastic. As far as I know – I just discovered this last week – it’s a YouTube thing. The quality varies from “remind me, why does the internet exist?” to “Fuck Yeah!”. I’m not entirely sure why these are on YouTube; there’s no video. They’re audio books. I loveContinue reading “Humans – Fuck Yeah!”
Flow
I got writing flow this weekend! I wrote for about 15 hours. It felt like just a couple. But, yee fucking haw! This book may actually get written, after all. We’ll see if it’s repeatable. Chapter 13 just needs polish and it’s done. Almost 0100. Time for bed.
We’re Doomed
I read an interesting article about AI hacking: When AI Starts Picking the Locks. There’s a lot of good stuff in there. The most terrifying sentence: And insist that human judgment — discernment, wisdom, moral responsibility — remains central to decisions about risk It’s unfortunate that almost every filter we have between birth and theContinue reading “We’re Doomed”
